Just down the Tahuayo River from Chino is the community of Esperanza, a jungle village that serves as an important gathering place for families throughout the region. Esperanza is home to a medical clinic that provides care for the local community and surrounding villages—an essential resource in this remote area.
Building on more than a decade of partnership in Chino, BTCV began working with Esperanza in 2024. Together, we are supporting community-identified priorities within their school system to help create sustainable education.
In 2026, the BTCV Team led by Chuck Walls and Micki McCabe Walls will complete the second phase of the Esperanza Campus, which will entail construction of a Classroom combined with a Teachers’ Office, as well as a Water Drainage System that is critical to infrastructure sustainability. These components add to the phase 1 new Classroom build and existing classroom Roof & Ceiling Renovations as great next steps in the planned whole-campus solution in this wonderful partner community. The McCabe Walls Family Foundation is fully supporting this multi-phase legacy project in partnership with the Esperanza Community, Dolly Beaver, and Angels of the Amazon.
